Duplication of Personnel in Vocal Varsity and Non-Varsity Groups

Current Wording: Treble or tenor-bass choirs may be entered as non-varsity groups provided that a varsity mixed choir (treble choir in middle schools, junior high schools and conference 1A-2A-3A high schools) from the school is entered and there is no duplication of personnel.

Clarification: Therefore members of a mixed choir or treble choir designated as the varsity group representing that school may not participate in a non-varsity organization. However, personnel in a non-varsity mixed choir may participate in a varsity treble or varsity tenor-bass choir.

Section 1102 (j)(3)(D) ADDITIONAL GROUPS on page 142 of the 2005-2006 UIL Constitution and Contest Rules as follows:

(D) Treble or tenor-bass choirs may be entered as non-varsity groups provided that a varsity mixed choir from the school is also entered and there is no duplication of personnel. TREBLE OR TENOR-BASS CHOIRS MAY BE ENTERED AS NON-VARSITY GROUPS PROVIDED THAT A VARSITY MIXED CHOIR FROM THE SCHOOL IS ENTERED AND MEMBERS OF THE VARSITY MIXED CHOIR DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY NON-VARSITY CHOIR.

(E) MEMBERS OF A NON-VARSITY MIXED CHOIR MAY PARTICIPATE IN EITHER A VARSITY OR NON-VARSITY TREBLE OR TENOR-BASS CHOIR.

Performance Requirements - Full Orchestra

Option One
A. One full orchestra work from the Grade V list; OR a substitution as listed under (+).
B. A second full orchestra work from the Grade IV or V list.
C. A string orchestra selection from any source.

Option Two
A. One full orchestra work from the Grade V list; OR a substitution as listed under (+).
B. A second full orchestra work from any source.
C. A string orchestra work from the Grade IV or V list OR a substitution as listed under (<)

Option Three (*)
A. One full orchestra work from the Grade V list; OR a substitution as listed under (+).
B. One full orchestra work from the Grade IV or V list; OR a substitution as listed under (+).
C. A full orchestra work from any source.

(*) Option Three may be used ONLY if there is a Varsity String Orchestra from the same school entered in the contest.

Virtuoso Solos

A. Virtuoso solos for winds, percussion and strings need not be memorized.
B. Virtuoso solo list will appear on UIL State Office web site.
