AREA B MARCHING CONTEST

OCTOBER 25, 2008

5A at Pennington Field, HEB ISD---3A at Birdville FA/A Complex

The following information is for the 5A and 3A band directors who have a “Statement of Intent” on file, and are eligible to attend the 2008 Area B Marching Contest.  Hopefully this will answer all of your questions.

1. The contest will be conducted according to the rules of the Constitution & Contest Rules.  Please read and have an understanding of the rules prior to attending the contest.  All information, regarding the Area B Contest, will be on your region’s website.

2. The performance schedule of times will be posted on the website after the total number of entering schools has been finalized.  The time slot you draw is the time slot in which you perform.  (Except for host Bands) There are no exceptions other than weather.

3. The ENTRY FEE for Area is $250.00 per band.   Make the check payable to:  AREA B UIL MUSIC CONTESTS.  A copy of the announcer sheet from your regional marching contest is acceptable. The entry form, (on your website or the Region 5 website), signed by your principal or superintendent, your announcer sheet (script), and entry fee MUST be delivered to 1811 Mossy Oak, Arlingon, 76012, by Thursday afternoon, October 23, 2008.  I suggest that these be “overnighted” and shipped via US mail special delivery or express.

4. The gate fee for spectators is $5.00 per adult, $3.00 per student and senior citizens.  Bus drivers will be admitted free.  However, administrators and band chaperones must have chaperon passes, in the form of wrist bands.  Ten wrist bands per competing band will be given to the director at check in.

5. At 45 minutes prior to your band’s performance time, you will report to the warm-up area, where you will be met by your monitor.  Each band is allotted 30 minutes in warm-up.  At 10 minutes prior to your performance, your band will be guided to a staging area near the end zone of the home side.  Your band will wait there until it is instructed by the announcer to “take the field,” which will occur 5 minutes prior to your band’s performance.  Your band will then have 5 minutes to prepare for the performance, and you may use this time in any way you choose. At 1 minute prior to the performance, the announcer will announce the band, its directors, drum majors, and performance titles.  The beginning of the announcement will indicate that the performance must begin in 60 seconds.  (This means that if your announcement takes 40 seconds, then you must begin your show within 20 seconds after the end of the announcement.).

6. Failure of a band to leave the warm-up on time is not a valid excuse to begin a performance late.  The clock will start at the scheduled times.

7. At the end of the preliminaries, one director from each band in Class 5A and one director from each band in 3A will come to the posted area (locker room east of the elevator at Pennington, Community Room on the ground floor at Birdville) to review the ranking of the bands.  Any and all protests must be made prior to the announcement of the results of the preliminaries.

8. The drum majors of all participating bands will assemble, at the entry gate of the field, immediately after the last competing band finishes.  The bands that will be advancing to the finals (later that evening) will be announced during this presentation.  At the end of the finals, the drum majors of these bands will assemble on the sidelines for the introduction, salute, and the announcement of the bands advancing to State.  (THERE WILL BE NO FINALS IF 13 OR FEWER BANDS ARE ENTERED IN THE AREA CONTEST).

9. Executive Secretaries of Region 2, 3, 7, 20, 24, and 25 are requested to notify me “no later” than 24 hours after the completion of your contest by e-mail, the following information: (this information will expedite the scheduling of the Area B Marching Contest)
